Corrie Hallie - Loch Coire Chaorachain
Start: Large lay-by on A832 just East of Dundonnell
Description: Land rover track leading to a large waterfall under the brooding peaks of An Teallach
OS Map: #19, Gairloch & Ullapool
Multimap: Online Map
This fairly easy walk on good tracks gives great views of the An Teallach ridge, one of the best in Scotland. Leaving the car at the busy car park of Corrie Hallie near Dundonnell on the A832 Gairloch - Braemore Junction road, cross the road, and walk up the land rover track and through the gate.
The track continues climbing, with views opening up behind to Little Loch Broom and ahead to the hill range. Passing through some light woodland, a few small waterfalls can be seen down to the right. This path is the main one used by walkers heading for An Teallach and the Fisherfield hills, so can be very busy at weekends and holidays.
After about 5 miles, the glen opens into a large bowl shape, with the path zig-zagging up the slope to the right. Go off the path, and follow the stream towards the waterfall, and select a large flat rock to lie back on. The quiet is intense, with the sound of the waterfall only broken by the chirping of Birds, baaing of Sheep and the occasional walker.
Those with more energy to burn can climb up the waterfall and onto the hills on either side for a better view of the surrounding hills, and into the lochan above the falls. From here there are great views West to the An Teallach ridge, and South to the Fisherfield and Letterewe Forests. Further East are the Fannaichs.
A further 4 or 5 miles walk along the path leads to the bothy at Shenevall at the head of Loch na Sealga, the popular base for climbing An Teallach. Return to the car park by the same track.
