Flowerdale Falls
Start: The Old Inn, Gairloch
Description: Easy walk up good track to a Waterfall
OS Map: #19, Gairloch & Ullapool
Multimap: Online Map
A gentle walk on good paths to Flowerdale House, then through conifer forests to a waterfall. Rhodedenrons add a lovely splash of colour in the spring and summer. While the main path is good, the paths beyond Flowerdale House are unmetalled but in pretty good condition so boots are only needed in really wet weather.
Starting from the Car Park by the Old Inn in the Charlestown, the harbour area to the south of Gairloch. The narrow road leads towards Flowerdale House. Maps and guide booklets are available at the start of the walk. The location makes it a great post-dinner stroll after having a good feed at the Old Inn (recommended!!)
The path passes the front of Flowerdale House and continues on through forests and farmland. This is the homeland of the McKenzie's of Gairloch, and was once cannon balled by a ship out in Shieldaig bay! The track goes past the Pony Trekking centre, before winding its way up through cleared foresty land towards Flowerdale waterfall.
The walk can be extended by climbing up the path on the left-hand side of the waterfall, which leads out onto rocky moorland and loops round to return to the road just north of the car park. This section is on muddier paths than before.
