Redpoint - Diabaig
Start: End of B8056 Gairloch - Redpoint road
Description:Walk along the coastline of Loch Torridon from Redpoint to Diabaig
OS Map: #19, Gairloch & Ullapool
Multimap: Online Map
This is a longer walk along the shores of Loch Torridon between Redpoint and the village of Diabaig near Shieldaig. Redpoint is reached by heading South from Gairloch for about 2 miles, and turning right into the road signposted for Shieldaig, Badachro and Redpoint, and following it for approximately 9 miles to it's end. Just before the end of the road, a viewpoint from the highpoint looks out to Skye and the Hebrides.
Take the left hand gate, through Redpoint Farm, and out along the track towards the coast. The path heads down to the old Fishing cottages by the Southern beach at Redpoint, then strikes out along the coast. It winds along above the rocks, giving great views across to the far shore, and out the mouth of the Loch to Raasay and Skye. At some points it heads inland to avoid stream mouths. At one point it strikes further inland, passing by the Youth Hostel at Craig.
From here it stays well inland, and heads over fairly featureless heathland til it reachs Diabaig. This is a distance of about 11 miles, so it's worth having a car at each end, or staying over in Diabaig unless you're up for a long days walk.
